The Appraiser
“King of Pop Culture”
Gary Sohmers
Appraiser and Convention Producer
Gary attained his love of collecting from his father who collected campaign buttons. At the age of eight he began selling his toys at garage sales and took an interest in learning the relevance and history of the items, eventually becoming a world-renowned expert and authority on Pop Culture.
Gary opened a well-known and successful memorabilia and collectables store in Hudson, MA called “Wex Rex Collectibles”. Fellow appraisers convinced Sohmers to approach the television show, “Antiques Roadshow” to assess pop-culture collectibles and toys. In 1997, Sohmers made his first appearance on the popular, Antiques Roadshow in Rochester, NY.
Gary Sohmers wore his trademark Hawaiian shirts while sharing his pop-culture expertise, appraising for 13 seasons, which equates to more than 80 appearances on PBS-TV’s “Antiques Roadshow”. Sohmers also appeared as an expert appraiser on the VH1 television show “For What It’s Worth” hosted by Howard Stern.
Gary continues to produce collectible shows across the country and is a regular talk-show guest on WBZ NewsRadio 1030. He still spends his time appearing at antique shows nationwide as well as providing appraisals ranging from private customers to large, overstocked warehouses.
