Jo Jo Laine (born Joanne LaPatrie, Danvers, Massachusetts, July 13, 1952, was an American singer, model and actress, who married Denny Laine while he was a member of Paul McCartney’s group Wings.
Originally, she was a groupie who had affairs with Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and a lengthy relationship with Rod Stewart just before meeting Denny. She also dated Rolling Stones producer, Jimmy Miller, who produced her remake of Herman’s Hermits hit, “I’m Into Something Good”.
She recorded her single “Hulk” with Sting and Andy Summers of The Police. She was also friends with the members of Led Zeppelin.
Later in life, Jo Jo and her children lived on the estate of Alexander Thynn, 7th Marquess of Bath, from 1991 to 1996.
Jo Jo Laine died on October 29, 2006 at St George’s Hospital, London, at the age of 54.
Denny Laine was born in Birmingham, England and took up the guitar as a boy. He gave his first solo performance as a musician at the age of 12. In 1964, Laine helped form The Moody Blues.
He sang lead vocal on the group’s first big hit, “Go Now”. Laine and Pinder wrote most of the band’s music during 1965–67. After leaving The Moody Blues, Laine formed the Electric String Band and shared a bill with Jimi Hendrix and Procol Harum. Laine wrote “Say You Don’t Mind” which became a Top 20 hit, he then went on to play with Ginger Baker’s band in 1970.
Laine joined forces with Paul McCartney to form Wings in 1971 and provided lead and rhythm guitars, lead and backing vocals, and co-wrote songs with Paul including “Mull of Kintyre”, which reached No. 1 in the UK in 1977. He remained with the group for 10 years until they disbanded.
In January 1980, after Wings leader McCartney was arrested for possession of marijuana, on arrival at an airport in Japan where they were booked to perform a sell-out tour, the band’s future became uncertain and Laine announced he was leaving Wings, due to McCartney’s reluctance to tour in the wake of the murder of John Lennon.
Letter of Authenticity
The letter pictured at the top of the page includes the following message:
“This is to certify that the following Pinkish Purple-ish Ruffled shirt was Paul McCartney’s in the Sgt. Pepper Beatle Days. This was the first thing Paul ever gave me as I freaked with them being my favorite colours. Linda made a remark to him about how she liked it too. But he still gave it to me. (1972) “
